The History Committee of the Black Rock Community Council has been busy preparing a series of events and programs to celebrate America’s 250th milestone. Included in our plans will be a special presentation entitled “Black Rock’s Role in the Fight for Independence – the Story of Spies, Warriors and Privateers” as well as at least one walking tour highlighting this role.
Our 250th celebration will also feature an energized and patriotic parade, regular history posts on our Facebook and Instagram platforms detailing events leading to the signing and a special street banner program recognizing Black Rock’s patriots.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Thanks to Twelvenote Brew Co., there is even more reason to celebrate. “Two-Fiddy USA Ale,” is a special brew created exclusively for this anniversary. Look for it on tap in local bars, pubs, and restaurants.

And our celebration will culminate on Saturday, July 4th with a ceremony which will feature the unveiling of a new memorial honoring Black Rock’s Revolutionary War hero Caleb Brewster and recognizing Black Rock’s role in the celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday. The event will feature short talks, patriotic music and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. All of this will be followed by a reception featuring light fare and, of course, Two-Fiddy USA Ale. And this will fittingly take place at Ellsworth Park, the former farm of Caleb Brewster.
There will be plenty of opportunities for all to participate, but please note the following: the exact dates and times for our presentation and walking tour will be posted on this page on Sunday, May 31st, and since there will be limited number of spaces available, participants will be required to register for both.
